I'm a musician and writer based in Uptown with 16 years of experience playing Violin and Viola. I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2018 and have studied Viola with Ronald Houston, currently teaching at Southern Methodist University, and Doyle Armbrust of the Spektral Quartet. One of my beliefs as a teacher of the saxophone, is that it is equally as important to foster musicality as it is master technique. My teaching experience is rather diverse. I started teaching private lessons thirty years ago and I always loved sharing what I knew with others. I've never stopped teaching private lessons, but I've also taught group lessons and music classes in private schools, I've taught adult classes and I've taught college classes at two schools in New Jersey. I like to combine fundamentals of music with showing students what I'm currently up to with the main goal of getting the student to be able to play what he or she wants to as soon as possible. When I was about 11 years old, I quit piano and was not planning to return to music. I began playing drums at a very early age and performing in my early teens. Throughout my teens I played in various jazz ensembles including the Empire State Youth Orchestra and began my studies at William Paterson in 2012 under the direction of Mulgrew Miller. At William Paterson I gained access to many incredible professional musicians and various performance opportunities in the North Jersey/NYC area. I was certain I'd played terribly and would be forever shunned by the rock performing community, but it turns out nobody noticed my nerves - only the fact that I got up on stage and played that flute. This transformative moment for me led to many energetic performances, increasing in confidence each time. As an adult I've enjoyed performing in several ensembles including 8 years in a flute choir and various professional "jam sessions."
