The only difference between the children and the adult would be the guitar size and the amount of practicing and how often they need to practice. A warm up I use to take care of this issue is asking the student to make a fire siren noise and I go up an octave (ex. do-do, re-re,mi-mi). In an adult I will ask the student to yawn (lifting the soft palate) and sigh at the same time. This is a very simple correction to make in students of all ages. Beginning students, especially children, need more guidance and structure to the lessons to get started, but its still important to keep them interested , engaged and having fun, so Ill typically integrate lessons on basic technique with songs that children already know. When it comes to teaching piano I use the faber method. I like the combination of theory, ear training, and sight-reading that it offers as those are fundamental skills to be a good musician. If they are able to successfully complete those books, I go into solo repertoire and work on fingering techniques as well as reading music off a lead sheet as you never know when you want to play something and the sheet music is not available.
