Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I've been living in Manhattan for the last five years, where I studied at The Juilliard School with Itzhak Perlman, Li Lin, and Catherine Cho for my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. For the last two years I've been serving as Teaching Assistant to Itzhak Perlman and Li Lin at Juilliard. I think I can learn just as much from my students as they can learn from me, so I want to make sure to show them as much respect as they give me, by allowing for a free flow of students ideas and interpretations. I do this by allowing students some input in choosing the music that they perform, as well as specific content they want to learn. I do not use a heavy handed method of teaching or discipline, though I do impart the importance of practice, diligence, attention to detail, and creativity. At times I incorporate methods, such as the Suzuki method for violin, or Mel Bay for guitar. I love to get students to be creative, so encourage them to write their own music, and spend time working on expressive interpetations of other's music. For beginners, I always start with Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. I typically will work with the student from the Suzuki Violin Method books and also will choose a scale book based on the student's progress. I often prefer for beginning students to play from the Hrimaly Scale Book. Later down the line, students can choose pieces that they are interested in, but I am always an advocate of classical pieces for fundamental training. Read More

I have been teaching consistently since the summer of 2013, working with students of all ages and ability. Although I specialize in violin performance and pedagogy, I have also spent a significant amount of time teaching piano, music theory, and harmony. I believe that consistent practice, alongside warm encouragement and motivation is the key to any kind of success when teaching music. Over the years, I have learned that teaching violin and music does not have to be done solely on the instrument, and I like to spend time developing a strong sense of harmony and rhythm by playing small practice games throughout a lesson- especially with children. The most important over-arching philosophy in ALL of my teaching, is INDIVIDUAL CURRICULUM. Every student is a unique human being, bringing unique perspective, experiences, talents, and flaws. I adjust all curriculum based on the needs of their students, in order to play up their strengths and address their flaws. I have created a curriculum which is comprised of the Suzuki series for Violin, the String Builder Series by Samuel Applebaum; the Introducing the Positions-Volumes I & 2 and Scale studies by Harvey S. Whistler. Music theory is taught using the Master Theory Series by Charles S.Peters and Paul Yoder. Additional Etudes that focus on Bowings, and Double Stops are taught to the more advanced student.
