I believe each student is different. Therefor, lessons should differ depending on each students particular needs, taste in music, and age. I would never treat an adult student like I would a young student and vice versa. I always try to set weekly goals with each of my students in order for them to have something to work towards on a consistent basis. If my students don't reach their weekly goal I simply have a little bit of a review with them in the beginning of the lesson and then proceed with that weeks work. Read More

I began offering private string lessons in College during summers in Florida. I taught private string lessons. Further into my education I took internships in music therapy working with many different populations. I gave therapeutic music lessons to patients in hospitals like Massachusetts General Hospital, Worcester Recovery Center and McLean Hospital. There I ventured into teaching guitar and voice. At Berklee College of Music, I worked with young children during our city's Beantown Jazz fest to help introduce them to new instruments. Read More

When teaching music (or anything), I always attempt to meet the students where they are: For example, when teaching a young beginner, I m a young beginner, I would probably explain the scale by singing the, "Doe, a Deer," song (from The sound of Music) - everyone knows that. I try to keep things light, simple and fun, while challenging at the same time. I also try to help students cheive their targeted goal, as most people have a favorite song or style of music in mind that they want to learn. Read More

I am not interested in any student under 18 years old. How about the student's PARENTS ? Also, I am not able to go to students' homes. I don't have a car. All my students (Guitar, Violin, mandolin), get a special 4 color chart (of my unique design), with every song/tune they learn. This guards against forgetting the tune in the future. For these students, with my lessons, they can learn 4 Christmas songs > Joy to the World, Deck the Halls, Silent Night, Jingle Bells. + 1 New Year's Eve song > Auld Lang Syne.I have been playing the guitar professionally for over 30 years. I grew up in a musical family. My mother is a professional violinist and teacher and all of my sisters and brother and I learned to play various instruments from a very early age. My mother and father sacrificed a lot for their children to have music lessons as they are quite expensive for the lower middle class family But they believed it was worth it as music lessons boost brain power and help with the development of fine motor skills and mathematics, even speech.
