I am an energetic and encouraging instructor who loves seeing students get excited about learning new things. I have B.M. in Acoustic Composition and Electronic Music, 10 years of playing/performing French horn, 5 rigorous years of piano instruction and performance, and a whole lifetime of singing. I wear a lot of hats in my professional life that range from composer to ethnomusicologist (specializing in UK identities and politics in music) to performer (formerly primarily horn but now primarily piano and voice) to music administrator to teacher. I'm a trumpet player in the Tampa/St Pete area looking to share my experience and love for trumpet with students. I have two degrees, a Bachelor's in Music Performance from Appalachian State University (2021) and a Master's in Music Performance from the University of South Florida (2023). I've performed internationally in seven countries as well as domestically in New York, New Orleans, and Universal Studios Orlando. I also perform locally for churches and pop groups. Read More

For beginners I Use the essential elements book For intermediate students I use the Rubank intermediate method And for my advanced students I use the Abrans and Clarke method. With each lesson my goal is to the student learn a scale per lesson and a rudiment per lesson, we will also dig into the different styles and genres surrounding that specific instrument, and encourage the student to try new techniques. I have always loved sharing knowledge with others. I especially love sharing my musical knowledge with others. I want people to have fun making music and I believe the way to do that is to find creative ways to make practice interesting. But making music is also about creating relationships so I encourage my students to take advantage of the ways that performing music opens new doors and creates avenues for new friendships. Read More

In my opinion, my goal for the student is to be motivated, and stay motivated to try to also work at their instrument outside their lessons on their own. I would not want to cram information down their throats, but I also would not want to spend too much time on tasks that would get the student or myself carried away. The process of slowing things down and working them in chunks is, in my opinion, very efficient because the retention sets in really well and it also helps the student get in the habit of how to practice properly, and this goes for any level of student. All program students are assigned a daily routine to complete, song to perform, and focus exercise. For single lessons, I perform an inventory of skills, supplementary lesson, and assessment for an improvement plan. I select technique and training material in conjunction with any programs in which the student is currently participating (i.e. school band programs, other instruction, etc.). For more advanced students, consideration is given for playing goals, projects, performances, etc. Read More

My methods are based on what I have personally tried and proven to be beneficial. The three main methods I find to be extremely important are the Arban book, and the Clarke technical and characteristic studies. In addition, I've found equally important the Earl Irons long tone and flexibility exercises. I like to find out what the student is most interested in a tailor the practice regiment accordingly. Once we start to master the basics, we can move on to specific musical styles that the student wishes to pursue. Read More
