I love playing and teaching the trumpet. I spent much of my time growing up involved in various musical endeavors, and performed with numerous ensembles in college. While I did not pursue a music degree, I continued to study under professional musicians, and worked diligently at my craft. Music is not my career, but it is a passion that I enjoy greatly outside of my DC office. If the student is interested in jazz, I typically use Jim Snidero's "Jazz Conception" books as a great starting place to learn about interpreting jazz music as well as a basis for starting to talk about improvisation. Continuing from there, jazz students will start to learn jazz "standards" from the Great American Songbook and discussions of improvisation will go deeper. Most of my experience with teaching has taken place while traveling on the road and helping individuals prepare for recording sessions. However for more than 10 years now, I've rendered my services at neighborhood schools (elementary and high school); music workshops; private homes; and local churches; working with young people as an assistant teacher, private music teacher and/ or teaching artist.
