Instruments: Trumpet Music
For beginner students, I focus heavily on fundamentals consisting of breathing, mouthpiece buzzing, long tones, slurring/tonguing exercises, and scales. I will require each student to learn at least 1 new scale each week once we've established our individualized curriculum. For more intermediate/advanced students, fundamentals are still a must, but we will also begin more challenging repertoire such a solos, etudes, orchestral excerpts, and various other advanced studies depending on the student's level. Hello! I love teaching and value each and every student I have as an individual, and cater my lessons to match your interests. I'm originally from Georgia, and moved to New York to pursue my career as a jazz trombonist, and since have performed all over the world including Europe and the Caribbean. I also love folk and rock music, and have played banjo for 2 years, and also write music for my own group where I combine trombone playing and the banjo with other jazz musicians! Read More

I have been playing the trumpet since I was in the 5th grade and have had a passion for music ever since. I enjoy teaching younger and older students that are looking to begin musical training and learn a new skill. Performing is also a huge part of my life and I enjoyplaying forothers any chance I get; I have even had the privelage to perform in Dublin, Ireland as a Bagpiper. Read More

My musical background began when at 7 yrs. old I was playing the piano with my mothers instruction. I became a self taught student in brass and piano and later was accepted as a Music major to West Chester University. During HS I became known as a trumpet soloist in Regional and State Bands and in the Salvation Army brass program a cornet soloist. I've taught in public and private schools as an instrumental music teacher and later had my own studio of 50 students. Read More

Like Most trumpet players, I follow and believe in using essential trumpet books (Arbans, Clarke, Flexus, Schlossberg, etc) and use others that depend on the desires of the musician. For children and/or beginners, I incorporate a little keyboard, to help with some theory basics, since all the notes are laid out. I have always struggled with my musical interests differing from my teachers while growing, so I develop my lessons based on each student, and play music that will both incorporate the teachings of the lesson, and also play music that is enjoyable for them, as well as etudes, or anything they would like to work on. MUSIC SHOULD AND MUST ALWAYS BE FUN. My Teaching style is relax but very educational. I use lots of examples and stories to get my point across. We can also view youtube videos, old recording of performance, and advance music technique books to learn. I teach by example. I will play and show you how to do it step by step at your own pace. I let the student learn at their own speed without any pressure or rush. Read More

Some of my favorite and most rewarding feelings in life have been when students have an "aha!" moment. These moments come after consistent engagement with a concept. Thats why I encourage daily practice (of any length, as long as its daily.) I balance grunt work with fun work, making sure that students are learning music THEY want to learn. My lessons usually begin with a short warm up, followed by a review of the goals set last week, followed by the introduction development of a new concept(or two), and concluding with a setting of goals for the next lesson, with the answering of questions all in between.
