My teaching experience sates back to running trumpet sectionals (in Junior High High School) for an All Star Jazz Band in my home town. When I was 16 I started teaching younger trumpet students as well. I descovered early on that I had a passion for directing and teaching. This stayed with me, and I always have incorporated education into my directing and leadership styles as a perormer. As a Musical Director for Royal Caribbean I would regularly have to teach an hour long show to my international band in under an hour and a half.I know that learning an instrument is hard work and that motivation is key to success. I began teaching trumpet when I was a high school student. My students were middle school aged peers within my school district that needed additional guidance. While in college, I maintained two dozen or so students within my own private studio. Some of these students were non-music majors that were given to me by my own voice professor. My primary instrument is the human voice. A complicated yet versatile instrument that is unique in every person, and as such should be treated with specific pedagogical methods that best suit a student's age, skill level, and learning style.
