For beginning students I believe it's important for them to begin playing the first day. I get the students to make their first sound and teach the technique and theory as they learn their instrument. For beginning voice students I use the same method, but I like to use a song that the student knows. For students with experience I like to have them play or sing something they know and I evaluate that and I will work with them on that song and build their technique. Read More

Those lightbulb moments for students drive what I do. I love working hard with students to accomplish musical goals, pushing them beyond what they thought they were capable of. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for the student at each lesson, taking small steps to achieve larger goals. In my lessons, I aim to not only cover the skills in playing the instrument, but also basic music theory. I also incorporate reflective questions for students to get them thinking about the music in new ways (e.g., structurally, historically, philosophically, etc.).
