I have been playing trumpet for over 10 years, and have been teaching various students for over 5 years. I grew up in St. Louis, where I studied with musicians in the St. Louis Symphony. During high school, I was selected for competitive music festivals, ranging from Brevard to the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Orchestra program. For my bachelors, I attended Northwestern University, where I have studied with famous orchestral players, such as Robert Sullivan, who played in the New York Philharmonic and Cincinnati Orchestra. I focus particularly on comfort adn compassion on my lessons. I always want to help students develop and discover their own most efficient way of learning. I check in with students regularly before, during and after lessons to make sure I am tailoring the lesson to their needs as much as possible. I also incorporate reflective questions for students to get them thinking about the music in new ways (e.g., structurally, historically, philosophically, etc.). I began teaching people how to play instruments when I was in high school, by teaching new students to the band how to play percussion. I then continued teaching once in college by volunteering at local high schools helping new students to the band programs learn brass and percussion. From there I worked with the Rich South high school band director and the Jack Hille middle school band directors. Once I graduated college I taught choir and instrumental music for the catholic school system for two years. Read More
