My experience with learning was fun. Since I was learning multiple instruments it was fun to tie everything together. I could say the best part while learning was understanding theory...that part of my learning opened up many doors for me musically. Hello. I am a graduate of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign holding my Bachelors in Music Education and looking for opportunities to teach lessons to students. I specialized on the Euphonium in college and have extensive knowledge of the low brass family, but can teach all brasses. When planning lessons, I aim to provide students with 1) music to practice from a variety of genres and styles, 2) music that will challenge them in a variety of ways, and 3) creating/composing exercises and etudes that will help the student focus on particular weaknesses in their playing (I have often used music notation software to create individualized etudes for students). While a consistent practice schedule is ideal but the same principle applies here: focused practice is ideal, practicing just to get in the hours will not progress a students ability (I know from personal experience). Some students enjoy learning exercises from a book while others enjoy learning pop songs by ear, forcing book exercises on a student who may want to learn Ariana Grande songs will result in inefficient practice.
