I am a great listener, who listens to the students needs and abilities. I believe that we all go through a metamorphosis, a transformation in our musicianship. Music is meant to be enjoyed not shoved through. I also believe that the student needs to be engaged, and challenged in their musicality by calling them to a higher technique within their abilities to perform. My teaching style is based on each student's needs. Some students like to learn at a fast pace and others like to go slower. I listen carefully and ask questions, basing instruction on what creates success. My approach is to make learning fun. One of my biggest strengths as a music teacher is figuring out students' learning styles and differentiating instruction accordingly. I absolutely do not use a cookie cutter approach. I am very good at personalizing lessons to fit students' interests and needs. I feel it is important to allow each student to learn at his or her own pace. I am a passionate musician who has been privately trained in instrumental and vocal music since I was 8 years old. I have had many opportunities as a trumpeter and vocalist, which include performing with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and Choir, the Sioux City Symphony, and soloing alongside legendary jazz trumpet player, Jon Faddis. I have won numerous awards in music, such as Outstanding Soloist at the AU Jazz Competition in 2012 and 2014, as well as Outstanding Brass Soloist at the KCKCC Jazz Competition in 2015. Read More

I like to begin students in the Arban's Conservatory Method book, it is a very thorough book with a lot of examples of most technical things a student should work on. It is a very comprehensive book that doesn't focus on anything in particular but covers everything well. I then like to move into books that focus more on different aspects of playing such as Charlier, Vizutti, Brandt, and Orchestral Excerpt books meant for Smphony auditions. Read More

Depending on whether it be voice or instrumental my methods will differ slightly. For beginning voice students (-12) I teach out of a folk songs book, and if they choose, challenging disney repertoire which adds an element of fun, but also is educational. for Intermediate students (12-15) I use the same folk songs book but apply more advanced techniques on proper singing technique, then depending on their level, I might do more advanced repertoire which fits them. I am a Doctor of Chiropractic who has enjoyed music for over 15 years! I started trumpet when I was in 5th grade and quickly realized music could be a fun hobby, however, needed some help in honing my skills.
