Overview:
I am an overly passionate musician that enjoys writing, listening, and analyzing music just as much as playing it. I enjoy sharing that passion with as many people as possible, and teaching it to whoever will listen. I began playing trumpet 15 years ago and writing music 12 years ago. I am a composition grad student at Brooklyn Music Conservatory beginning year 2. I play principal trumpet in the orchestra, as well as freelancing around New York playing in musicals, and other groups. My favorite musical I have been in to date is Billy Elliot.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching about 7 years ago as a part time way of making a little bit of extra money while in school and began teaching at middle and high schools in preparation for marching band and festival band competitions 5 years ago. I have toured with 3 different ensembles in a jazz medium, a classical medium, and as a brass quintet and have played in many side by side performances with young children up to high school, as well as performing with members of the New York Pops under direction of the world renowned conductor and composer Steven Reineke.
METHODS USED
I like to begin students in the Arban's Conservatory Method book, it is a very thorough book with a lot of examples of most technical things a student should work on. It is a very comprehensive book that doesn't focus on anything in particular but covers everything well. I then like to move into books that focus more on different aspects of playing such as Charlier, Vizutti, Brandt, and Orchestral Excerpt books meant for Smphony auditions. This is all for classical music of course. As far as jazz or other mediums go, it is a very skill based decision as to where to start. I will usually start with fake books or real books, or even start with improvisational books.
LESSON STYLE
The most important and fundamental thing you can teach a student about music is that it can always be enjoyable. Music should be enjoyed, by the audience as well as the player. This is key to following through with music, I will always try to find a way to make the exercises I assign fun, or atleast not overly boring or repetitive. Students should be given more than one goal at a time, some of these goals should be very short term, while others should be long term, this instills a sense of confidence, but not a sense of hubris. There should always be a balance between the two. One important aspect of teaching is listening, and while I will always assign something for the student to work on directly on their instrument, I always try and find something for them to listen to as well. This is a key component in any student's education. If you don't know how you want to sound, then how can I help you get there? By giving them one piece to listen to each week, I help them make that decision.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
