Instruments: Trumpet Music

I love my students progressing and working hard to develop a passion for music. Each student will progress at his or her own pace. I set goals for my students each lesson they come to me. Encouraging students and getting them to set there own goals they focus and then they work at it. Read More

I approach each lesson differently. I focus on the students' weaknesses and work with them on being more comfortable talking about and facing them. I usually play with the student to ensure that they know I am working just as much as they are. I also do not put intense pressure on students to learn at a tempo; I focus on what makes them enjoy playing and having fun. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to four years ago when I had completed my AA degree in Music and I had decided to volunteer teaching music to both my old secondary school (high school) and the Barbados Pathfinder Band recruit program which I was a Band member of. Those sessions involved teaching the basics of music theory, aural skills, the rudiments of their instruments and the practice of discipline in practicing and the maintenance of their instrument(s).Therefore I believe that I can combine those same methods plus the 'new' ones that I have enquired over the past two years to make our music sessions fun, motivational and educational. Thus causing you to look forward in enhancing your need for learning about your instrument and yourself, the musician. For beginning students I start with basics: learning how to hold the instrument, put it together, etc. Then when that is solid we learn a few notes. From there we go to the Rubank books. At the same time, we start reading music that I find appropriate for them. For adults, it depends on what they want to learn. Popular songs or songs they request. But I also push for technical mastery of the instrument so I push for knowledge of scales and then keep pushing with more challenging/fun pieces. Read More

I also give my younger students a practice log so they can track how much they practice. I like to treat it like a game. That way they look forward to practicing and can gain an appreciation for the trumpet. I also want the student to look forward to lessons with me. Not for my own personal sake, but I want the student to enjoy taking lessons. If they don’t enjoy lessons, they aren’t going to want to play. Read More

I'm a retired Army musician who loves working with students and I’m eager to share that great adventure that is music.  I spent the first five years of my Army career with two wonderful service bands before I won an audition with the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps as a bugler.  During my service I continued to teach at my home studio, as well as freelancing as a trumpeter within the greater Washington DC/Baltimore area. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
