During the lessons, I start with scales, technical exercise, and then solo repertoire. Interests are very important and even pieces/genres that one may not find interesting, how do you know you're good at something if you've never given it a shot, so i'm all about taking chances and seeing where it leads. I like to keep my students active by encouraging practice, showing them the results of practicing and exploring different types of styles. Should they want to perform, I like helping and preparing them for band auditions, big performances or their first band practice. I've taught students as young as 7 years old and as old as 63. I make journal entries at every lesson to record what was covered. I encourage students to participate in recitals and can make arrangements for them to perform, as I beieve that public performance is an important milestone in their musical education.
