Music is my passion and I love sharing it with others. I've been an instructor for drums and percussion for over twenty years. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, I moved to L.A. where I continued my studies alongside ultra professional drummers Dave Weckl Chad Wackerman. While living in California I was able to gain invaluable experience performing on stage and recording in major studios. After moving back to the east coast I remain active in the music scene local to Baltimore, Maryland as well as playing nationally with groups ranging from Nashville, California and New York. I have a lot of experience with curriculum development. My favorite books to teach from include Accent on Achievement, Alfred's Piano Book series and Essential Elements. However I can teach without a book on any instruments and compose assignments as I have done in the past. My methods depend both on the experience and interests of the student. Generally, I hope that students acquire enough skills that they can begin teaching themselves. This involves basic technical abilities, understanding of the layout of the guitar, basic reading skills, ear training skills, understanding of music theory, and rhythm skills. Once the student becomes comfortable with these methods we can work in music that they are playing in a school ensemble. If they are not yet to that level we work slowly to get them there. If they are not in a school ensemble I help meet them at whatever environment they are in. This can include private students who already play professionally. This can also include Music teachers who teach a band program and are not string or brass players, but are woodwind, percussion or vocal teachers and just want to improve their skills for their own reasons.
