My goal for every student is to experience learning their instruments in an environment that is both encouraging and rewarding. I exhibit patience with the student knowing what it takes to develop new skills and I work hard in helping each student feel at ease in expressing themselves. I have used many different materials over the years, depending on the individual student's needs and desires to play their music. I do stress learning to read music notation so that you can approach with confidence any piece of music that you would like to play. Read More

I create an environment for my students that is stress free and is open for creative minds to express to me how they want to go about learning music. I take those ideas and use them to create an objective lesson plan of which we can build upon together for a fun, informative, and memorable experience in learning about music and their instrument. I have always enjoyed that fact that I made a contribution to people's lives by having them involved with music. Read More

Flexibility and creativity are the keys. Each student is different and learns/progresses in different ways. I believe in encouragement and positive reinforcement. Setting realistic goals while challenging the learner to grow is a delicate balance. Inspiring a love for practice is essential. There really is no magic to learning to play an instrument - you have to work at it - you just want that work to be fun! Read More

Generally, my teaching style depends on the student. Why is that? Everyone is unique, and everyone learns differently. It would be absolutely foolish of me to ever think that I can use one teaching method or style for each and every student. So I teach based on the student's learning style and predispositions. Also I tend to do alot of finger techniques as well as aural training, because I believe even though music reading is essential, it does you no good if you can't respond musically to the sounds and the nuances of your environment. Teaching and learning is a two way street where the teacher learns and the learner can teach, we accomplish more working together. Each student learns and progrresses at a different rate. My teaching is catered to the student's needs and wants within my own style of encouragement and positive affirmation. We will move at the pace that is correct for each person and through goal setting and recognition of improvement create a fun skill. Read More

My teaching approach begins by meeting the students where they are in regards to musical capability. We soon push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and allows them to apply the music theory in real time. A consistent schedule, whether it be during our schedule lesson or a follow up email packet, is the distinctive difference in my lesson plans. This practice regimen should continue long after our scheduled lessons and should be one of many vital keys to your child's future successes. Read More

For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. Once the adults have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction towards that interest, all while keeping the lessons engaging and fun.
