Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I always have the student start by developing a practice routine consisting of long tones, flexibility exercises, scales and the different tonguing attacks; single, double, legato and staccato. I've taught ages 10-70, and my students regualrly find success at both solo and ensemble competitions, as well as regional and all state bands.
