My teaching experience began in my undergraduate days at Morehead State University. While teaching private lessons to students across Kentucky I also was a music theory tutor for my peers at Morehead. I have experience teaching students at all levels, from beginner to advanced levels. My theory and private lesson students always gained much improvement, and some of my advanced students even entered all state bands and competitions. After introductions have been made by me and the student, I usually ask a goal of theirs that they would like to accomplish during their studies with me. From there, I usually focus on fundamentals while I try and figure out where they are as a player and cater my instruction to what I discover. For an elementary student, that might be relating musical concepts they are being taught by their 3rd grade music teacher, like "ta's" being quarter notes, to what they are learning on saxophone. I enjoy making sure students of all ages can begin their instrumental adventure with a solid foundation and the right knowledge to inspire self-efficiency.
