For students who are already in an instrumental program through school, I will start with whatever method book they are using at school, and branch off from there. Depending on the instrument, I will bring in another method book specific to that instrument book and we will also use some sort of etude book. I remember teaching my first sectionals in high school as an upperclassman to my fellow classmates. I've been hooked on the thrill of helping someone succeed ever since. I have since developed my own flute studio, with students ranging in age from 8 to adults, and all abilities, from beginners putting the flute together for the first time, to college music majors. My first teaching experience came in the summer of 2008, when I served as the Music Director at Camp Robin Rogers in Spencerville, Ohio, a program serving children with developmental disabilities. This wonderful experience reaffirmed my belief that anyone, regardless of age or ability, can learn to make music.
