Wayne State University Saxophone/Woodwind Teacher
Assistant Director of the Falcon Marching Band
Saxophonist in percussion/saxophone ensemble - Altered Sound Duo
Due to the fact that I teach students with drastically different age and ability levels, lessons are catered to each individual student's needs. In general, I try to structure the lesson in such a way that it can serve as a blueprint for at-home practice. We will usually start with some kind of warm-up exercise, move to technical/flexibility development, followed by repertoire and etudes. I keep a shared document with all of the items discussed in each lesson as a record for the student and include suggested listening/ reading for the week.
I want to see you grow as much as possible! That means that we will probably change what we do on a weekly basis to meet you wherever you might be at for that week. I will always push my students to perform at their absolute best while keeping all instruction and interactions supportive. As a teacher, I believe we must always build the student up to be their best, not tear them down. There will be weeks that you are really excited about something that we need to work on and I will make sure that all of our lessons engage that passion as much as possible!
