Wayne State University Saxophone/Woodwind Teacher

Assistant Director of the Falcon Marching Band

Saxophonist in percussion/saxophone ensemble - Altered Sound Duo

Overview:
I am passionate about helping you find your musical path! I finished a Bachelor's degree in Music Education at the University of South Carolina in 2014, a Master's degree in Saxophone Performance at Bowling Green State University in 2016, and am about to finish my Doctorate in Saxophone Performance and Music Cognition at Bowling Green State University. I have performed in China, Thailand, France, Canada, Belize, and throughout the United States. I have also performed with the Augusta Symphony, the Dearborn Symphony, Linda Eder, and Melissa Manchester!
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching in a variety of capacities for ten years and am currently the assistant band director at Gateway Middle School and Maumee High School! While much of my involvement has been through different schools and band programs (marching/concert band), I have also taught private lessons and coached ensembles of various sizes! I love being able to find ways to engage everyone's individual passion in my lessons and have always found the most success when students are excited about what they are learning. I believe that every student is capable of having a rich and full musical experience, regardless of age or ability level
METHODS USED

Due to the fact that I teach students with drastically different age and ability levels, lessons are catered to each individual student's needs. In general, I try to structure the lesson in such a way that it can serve as a blueprint for at-home practice. We will usually start with some kind of warm-up exercise, move to technical/flexibility development, followed by repertoire and etudes. I keep a shared document with all of the items discussed in each lesson as a record for the student and include suggested listening/ reading for the week.

LESSON STYLE

I want to see you grow as much as possible! That means that we will probably change what we do on a weekly basis to meet you wherever you might be at for that week. I will always push my students to perform at their absolute best while keeping all instruction and interactions supportive. As a teacher, I believe we must always build the student up to be their best, not tear them down. There will be weeks that you are really excited about something that we need to work on and I will make sure that all of our lessons engage that passion as much as possible!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
