Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I remember teaching my first sectionals in high school as an upperclassman to my fellow classmates. I've been hooked on the thrill of helping someone succeed ever since. I have since developed my own flute studio, with students ranging in age from 8 to adults, and all abilities, from beginners putting the flute together for the first time, to college music majors. I like to establish good fundamentals, and explain to each and every student exactly why I'm having them do something, and set clear goals in order to achieve whatever personal goals the student has for themselves and the flute. For beginning students, I combine multiple elements to understand the various aspects of their new instruments. With a combination of videos for inspiration, singing for audiation, and moving for connection to the instrument and how our muscles respond to it. My lessons rarely consist of sitting for the entire time. I believe that in the short time we have in lessons, it is more important to expose students to a variety of resources to investigate their new endeavor than it is to repeat repertoire for the sake of a quick result. Music has been a significant part of my life since I was a child, and it's importance has grown as I've gotten older. I started, as many do, in the fifth grade when I started playing the saxophone which I continued on through high school. When I was 13 I started playing the electric guitar, and I would later switch to the classical guitar at 19. In college I learned some piano as well as bassoon in addition to the methods and materials classes that I had to take as a music education major. Read More

For absolute beginner's I will spend the first few lessons just working on getting a sound out of the instrument and when ready, playing some easily recognized songs (like nursery rhymes), by ear to develop aural skills from the very start. All of my students will start with the Rubank methods of the appropriate level. For beginner and intermediate students, we will work out of classical repertoire books appropriate to the level.
