To me as a musician, teaching is as important and as necessary to our art as performing, and it is always a joy to share that art with students. I graduated from Kent State University in 2015 with my Bachelor of Science in Music Education, followed by a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance in 2019, and recently completed an Artist Diploma from UC-CCM. Although a bassoonist primarily, I've performed with orchestras such as the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, and the Warren Philharmonic, as well as bands like the Akron Symphonic Winds, the Cleveland Winds, and the Packard Band. I have a more laid back teaching style that is adapted to the student's personality and learning style. The last thing that any student wants is a stressful environment. Musical lessons should be challenging and have an element of fun as well. The student should leave the lesson wanting to come back to another lesson not feeling like they should put their instrument down and give up. I believe that fundamentals, as outlined above, are crucial to master for a student to truly understand their instrument. When a solid foundation has been established, it is much easier to approach those more complicated concepts. It then allows everything that a student do to become easier and truly move forward in their learning at an accelerated pace. I have found that constant encouragement keeps students engaged and eager to learn and to let the music itself challenge the student.
