Hi! My name is Nash Randall and I just entered my second year at Ohio University dual majoring in Music Education and Performance. I was exposed to music since I was very young, starting from private piano lessons then expanding out to a multitude of other instruments like the flute and clarinet, as well as the trombone and voice, but my main instrument has always been the saxophone. Throughout my high school career, I've participated in a vast amount of extra curricular music activities (jazz band, community bands, musicals, choir groups) as well as achieving high positions in numerous honor bands throughout Ohio. I began teaching privately in my sophomore year of high school. I had always known that I wanted to become a music teacher, but this is the time of my life when I really started discovering my potential in the education community. Students that I have worked with have achieved Superior Ratings in OMEA Solo and Ensemble events, have been part of various honor bands and extra-curricular groups. My goal is to get students to become independent in their musicianship, learn how music can effect everyday life, and how they can share the joy of music with others. Read More

I have been teaching for the past 10 years when I first developed my private lesson studio. This has led me to teach in every facet possible including band, orchestra, choir, marching band, jazz band, pit orchestra, general music and privately. I believe in a little a day goes a long way and developing good practice habits. Students can become incredibly skilled in a short amount of time with proper guidance. Read More

One of the reasons I love private lessons so much is because we can go at the pace of the student. We can explore different styles of music the students enjoys, and also styles that may be new to them. If a child is in band, I usually will ask them what they are working on in band so I can continue to help them in that area, while also exploring pieces of music on our own. Read More

I usually start with the Rubank Elementary Method book. There are four books in the series and they are very comprehensive. Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! Solo and ensemble pieces are introduced as the student becomes more proficient and various performing opportunities begin to present themselves. Read More
