I love helping my students find their paths on their instruments and in music. Through finding their paths and following their inspiration I impart proper music techniques and ideals. I hold a Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelors Degree from Berklee College of Music. I'm an active performer and have performed with groups on Captiol and Warner Brothers Records. I have performed extensively throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Missouri, Kansas City with a Master's Degree in Voice Performance. I relocated to NYC in September, 2013 to actively pursue a career in performance. I began formal voice lessons at the age of 14, but I began singing in choirs at age 6 and have been in love with performing since then. My primary focus is classical music, opera in particular, but I am also at home in musical theater and can work in other genres. Some of my past operatic performance credits include The Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, First Lady in The Magic Flute, and Micaela in Carmen. Some past musical theater credits include Mrs. Segstrom in A Little Night Music and The Stepmother in Into the Woods. I believe everyone can learn to sing and I love sharing my passion for music with others.
As a teacher, it is very rewarding to see my student progress and see their love for music deepen. I like to help students develop at their own speed while guiding them in the right path. I like to help my students find their own voice and creativity in music. It is very important for me to inspire my students by learning who they are and what they are interested in. I encourage my students to bring in things they are interested in and need help with. Becasue all students are different I try to make my lessons specific to their needs and goals.
I've started teaching clarinet and saxophone when I was 13 years old in a music store in Brooklyn. My love for teaching and love for music has always been with me throughout my career. After I received my BM in Music Education, I was fortunate enough to take private lessons from the greatest teachers of the word including the late great David Weber of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Larry Combs of the Chicago Symphony and, with the help of a full fellowship, from Karl Leister of the Berlin Philharmonic. I have taught in the public schools as well as achieving the title of Professor of Clarinet on the University level. I have performed in countless orchestras either as player or soloist here or abroad. In Portugal, I was both soloist and conductor. No matter where I was in the world, even when I was teaching in China, I have always had many private students and this is one of my greatest joys.

Musika offers in-home lessons for the same price as in-studio lessons! Lessons in your home are a convenient means for you to develop as a musician. This option saves you time, money, stress, and hassle of traveling!
The minimum age for beginning saxophone is around age 8. The students needs to be big enough to hold the instrument properly- even with the aid of the neck strap- and have the lung capacity and hand strength to play. Some band programs will start young players on clarinet before allowing them to switch to sax.
Saxophone students typically begin on alto sax. Yamaha, Selmer, and Jupiter are good brands to start. For reeds we would recommend a 1.5 or 2 thickness. Reeds will need to be replaced regularly. As the player becomes more comfortable he or she may switch to reed with a greater thickness or 3 or 4. For this reason, Musika recommends consulting the teacher before buying reeds in bulk.
Each teacher has his or her own style; but, as a new saxophone player, you can expect to learn about music theory and reading. Other topics covered in a lesson will likely include: instrument care, hand position and dexterity, correct breathing and embouchure formation, and tips for developing a beautiful sound in all registers.
Adults students often notice significant progress on saxophone. Our network of instructors work with all skill levels and ages. Most students are surprised to find how quickly it all comes back!

Omar is a great teacher as he provides expert instruction AND the right amount of encouragement. He is a professional musician on several instruments, yet he is patient with beginners! He also has gone out of his way to purchase an appropriate book for me, strings to re-string the cello, and extra attention to tuning. I appreciate how he explains and demonstrates exactly what a beginning cello student needs to know.

Caitlyn is friendly, helpful and still holds my high-school aged daughter accountable for practicing. She also makes sure the music technique is mastered correctly during the lessons - they work hard and still have a good time together. I can highly recommend her as a flute teacher. My daughter is very happy & grateful to have found Caitlyn as a teacher.

Vince is a great drum teacher for my 8 year old son. We go to his house where he has a studio setup with a huge drum set. He has been very patient but really holds my son responsible for learning the right way to play. After about 5 lessons, my son is playing some rhythms on the drums and reading music. He looks forward to his lessons with Vince.

Ted S. is teaching clarinet to one of my children, and piano to two others. He is extremely knowledgeable, and very encouraging. His teaching methods are keeping my children enthused about their lessons, and without that, you have nothing. Two of my children were taking piano lesson from another teacher for the past year, and not progressing. Ted has been able to evaluate their skills individually, determine what was missing in their music education, and begin again with some early basics they seem to have missed. I am convinced we are finally moving forward, and am very happy about that. I wish I would have made this change much earlier.

I was skeptical at first not knowing what I was getting my self into.. I am very happy that I forced myself to get into voice lessons because Eli is an awsome voice coach.. Very skillful and he helps you reach the goal you are trying to reach.. He is also very helpful with getting you to open up and come out of your shell and being heard.. I would and I already have recommended friends and family to sign up with Eli if they're serious about singing..

Dr. Nedra C is incredible. She knows her craft in and out, it truly shows in her teaching. As well, she cares a great deal about the student, and preps plenty of material outside of the lesson for those that she teaches. I've had many different music teachers and am aware who's talented and cares, and who isn't. Dr. Nedra C is true phenomenal, and any student would be lucky to have her.

Darrell is A-Maz-Ing! He demands results from his students and therefore results come quickly. The time he spends teaching is intense and packed with great instruction. He is a tough teacher but offers lots of valuable instruction that is applicable for music as well as life in general. I highly recommend Darrell if you are ready for results!

My 4 year old son is quite energetic. Another piano teacher tried to teach him before Peter and could not get my son to listen to him at all. That teacher told me that my son had no interest and that we needed to wait before having my son take lessons. Peter started teaching my son a few weeks later. He quickly developed a great rapport with my son. I was astounded when my son sat down and listened to Peter during the first lesson. Peter has remarkable patience and is a natural working with children. He knows when to follow the child's lead. My son is very interested in how the piano works, so Peter takes the time to teach him about this. He is able to use my son's interests (superheroes, Lego, Star Wars, etc.) to refocus him back to playing the piano. Between lessons, he brainstorms on how he can teach my son better. For example, my son was playing the notes, but not understanding rhythm, so Peter looked into it and came back the next week with a new plan which helped. My son looks forward to his lesson every week. When he hears the doorbell ring on lesson day, he exclaims, "Yay! Peter's here!"
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
