29 years playing the saxophone. 16 years teaching in Ridgfield Park, NJ K-6 general music, band, and chorus. Instruments taught are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion, as well as piano. Constructed and teach a music and movement program for autistic and special service students.
It is important for students of music to enjoy themselves and what their working on. By teaching my students what they are most passionate about, I find that they are always inspired to practice and perform.
For beginning students I like to focus on the Essential Elements series, such as Essential Elements 2000 for Strings, which is a wonderful way to combine technique and music reading; which I believe are the two most important basic skills. After these building blocks I start to choose reperiotire that reinforces and advances these concepts. For adult students, I like to use the same building blocks -- if necessary -- and supplementing that with their own interests.
10 plus years teaching voice, piano, guitar, clarinet, music theory, and composition.
I have been using the Alfred Method Books for my beginning piano students, as they provide a well-rounded program incorporating theory, technique and performance. pieces. Intermediate students should, in my opinion, begin to choose the music they want to work on. I like my students to learn how to read music as well as play by ear, how to practice and how to incorporate theory into performance. Most of all, I want all my students to deeply feel the joy of music making, and discover the vast universe of music that we all can share and enjoy.

Musika recommends renting a saxophone. The student will also need to regularly purchase reeds. The thickness of reed is measure of a scale of 1-4, 1 being with the thinnest, 4 being the thickest. We recommend starting with a softer reed, a Rico 1.5 or 2.
Most saxophonists begin in 4th grade. Unlike string instruments, it is not a good idea to start sax before the student enters elementary school. The student does need to have the strength to appropriately hold the instrument and have the lung capacity to provide consistent pitch and tone.
The teachers in our network create a customized lesson plan for every student. Topics covered during Musika's sax lessons may include, but are not limited to: correct embouchure formation, how to appropriately shape your lips around the mouthpiece, proper breathing and posture, how to develop a solid tone in low and high registers, how to hold, assemble, and clean the instrument properly, fingerings for notes, techniques for developing quick finger action, how to read music, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the saxophone!
Saxophone can be a pleasure to learn at any age or level. We have adults who are total novices, some who haven't played their instrument in 10 years, and some who are more advanced students looking to take their skills to the next level. Our teachers have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.

Caitlyn is friendly, helpful and still holds my high-school aged daughter accountable for practicing. She also makes sure the music technique is mastered correctly during the lessons - they work hard and still have a good time together. I can highly recommend her as a flute teacher. My daughter is very happy & grateful to have found Caitlyn as a teacher.

Pavel is doing a great job with my 6 year old son. Pavel is doing a great job helping my son focus on technique and rhythm, which is something previous instructors weren't so successful with. Pavel is organized / structured / systematic, which is what my son needs now, but I hope he relaxes a bit as the lessons continue so that more "joy" comes through.

Eduard is an amazing teacher. (Coming from someone who previously knew the basics of playing and music.) He is not to harsh with his words and is extremely nice. Eduard has a great amout of experience and displays it through his teachings. Specifically by making it easy to follow along with his words to actions. As a person with a wondering mind whom is distracted easily, it is easy to pay attention.

Melissa is very encouraging, positive, supportive and patient. She knows how to explain the technical details of flute and music notation to kids in a way that makes sense to them. She has been reliable so far turning up on time and calling if there is a need to reschedule. I would definitely recommend her to others.

Gina is very supportive and encouraging. Even though I get frustrated with my progress, she can tell that I've been practicing and reminds me of how far I've come. She challenges me to learn new skills without giving me a piece that I cannot master (with practice). I'm happy that she is my music teacher and look forward to many more lessons in the future.

I am a beginning guitar player that has now taken five lessons with Jeff. I cannot speak highly enough of Jeff has a guitar teacher! I have learned more in five lessons than the months I spent trying to learn on my own. Jeff has introduced me to music apps that I can use during my practice sessions, followed up our lessons with comments and/or music, is very encouraging - yet holds high standards. During my lessons I feel that Jeff is very observant and tuned in to your positioning when playing - whether it be your wrist, your arm, or your fingers. He always offers recommendations on ways to try to fix something that I might be struggling with. He really pays attention. As an aside, Jeff is a very talented songwriter and musician. Check him out on YouTube. His songs are very beautiful and inspirational. I'm honored to be his student! - Linda

Very knowledgeable on every aspect of music theory. I listen to recording artists playing various classical pieces, Dan's playing is much like a recording artist's playing. Always on time. Winning happy personality, a great role model. Puts me at ease when I am playing. Have two friends who hold music degrees, I count him a third, something special about the minds and personalities of good pianists. Thanks Dan.

My daughter is extremely happy and comfortable with Rachel, and looks forward to her piano lessons every week. She is a very kind and patient teacher, always using positive reenforcement with my daughter, which makes all the difference in the world to children. We definitely are looking forward to continued piano lessons with her. So glad we found her.

"I've been taking lessons with Richard for just a little over six months now and all I can say is that he is an amazing instructor. He hasn't followed a set one size fits all script in his lessons but has instead worked with my musical interests and at my pace in a way that is truly valuable. He has also kept things fun, interesting, and engaging even at times when I've felt overwhelmed and discouraged. This is an instructor that is truly adaptable to his students and will make sure that they get the most out of their lessons. I would definitely recommend him to anybody that truly wants to unlock their musical potential."

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
