I have proudly produced three students who are now independent music thinkers in their own rights. My first student was my mother, ironically, as she was the one who brought me to music. Now, she is a capable piano player whose repertoire ranges from Mozart to Chopin. She works harder on the piano than anyone I have met. My second student was a colleague at NJIT. She now maintains a solid technical background to tackle any music she would like. Read More

I have been providing private and group lessons through the New England Youth Wind Ensembles for over three years. I have experience with online, as well as in-person lessons. I encourage regular practice to all students, as it is important to develop daily and weekly routines. I will assist students with any materials they bring to a lesson, whether it’s repertoire from school or audition materials. I will introduce a variety of materials to ensure students are developing an appreciation for music of all cultures and styles. Read More

Over the years, I have come to understand that each individual has a different path to follow. Teaching in one specific way could help one student, but that same way could hamper another. For that reason, I create my teaching material after meeting my students. Although I have a lesson plan that includes the fundamentals of music, I adjust the way I teach the material in response to my students needs, interests and temperaments. Read More

I can not emphasize enough the notion that the desire to learn is most important in music. A student can not be forced to become a great musician, it first has to come from the heart. The core of my teaching style centers around that. I try to impart my passion for music to the student so as to motivate them into developing a natural curiosity about the mastery of the craft as well as artistry. Read More

I do tend to assign, as mentioned elsewhere, listening homework. I do this because I've seen it help students learn what they want to and need to learn faster as well as help students learn to like, love, or at least appreciate new things. The main point here is that every student is complex, difficult, and hard insomuch as teaching method required, but my passion is so great that I don't see issues or problems but rather new opportunities to get students excited about learning and demonstrating what they've learned. As a junior in high school I was given the oppportunity to provide inexpensive lessons to elementary students in the same town/program. It was just as much of a learning experience for us, the mentors, as it was for the students. A year later, I established, organized, and taught my own improvisation course in the form of a jazz combo of my peers that was counted as an independent study. Read More

I started teaching privately over 5 years ago, from my college apartment bedroom, and ever since I have been consistently teaching. Some students come and go, but I have some that have remained over the years. I believe that music is all about inspiration, which then leads to motivation. If I as the teacher can find something that inspires a student to be motivated to improve on their instrument, then I've done my job! Read More
