If the student is a beginner I'll first try to give him an understanding of how the instrument work, how to have a proper sound and how to memorize the fingerings of the notes. I decided to offer piano and general music lessons while I was attending college. It turned out to be very fun and rewarding to see my students begin to understand and apply the concepts I taught them. Creating my own teaching style and curriculum was difficult, but learning from my peers was a great experience and very helpful. Through my own and other's experiences, I've found that taking lessons at the beginning stage of learning an instrument greatly maximizes a student's potential and increases their desire and passion for musical growth, versus a student never having the chance to realize the joys and benefits of music and thier own potenitial because they had no one to guide them propperly.
