For beginners, I firmly believe in establishing strong fundamentals. However, you can't spell fundamentals with out "fun"! So, even while building fundamentals, music lessons should be fun and geared toward what the student wants out of all of this. Whether that's learning a specific song, style, cool musically visual trick, or just jamming, I'm here for it all! Musical journeys are specific to the individual and therefore there is no one path that all students must follow. Read More

My teaching style, both for voice and piano, is eclectic and really geared to each individual student. I believe in starting where the student is at, and always try to instill a sense of confidence and joy in each student. Teaching music is more than just teaching technique and songs--it is really working with the whole person. I love to see how a student develops, both musically and personally. In my years of teaching, I've experienced students having some wonderful transformations as performers and people. Read More

Enthusiasm! Encouragement! Fun! And lots of patience. I'm an energetic and passionate teacher and my goal in teaching is to pass that energy and passion on to my students! I understand that setting realistic goals and moving at a comfortable pace are crucial steps to take in order for this to happen. I also like to provide historical context and break down the "why" behind songs we work on in terms of music theory and songwriting choices, so that students can truly get a grasp on the entirety of the work rather than simply memorizing notes. I have developed my skill set through experience as a professional musician, songwriter, and band member. My specialty is guitar, as I have a degree in Guitar Performance from the California Institute of the Arts, and I also teach piano, voice, and ukulele. I also love to help students write music to express their creativity. As a musician, I have had the opportunity to perform, write, and record professionally with a very dedicated group of musicians. Instruments: Voice
The voice is a very personal instrument to learn how to use in a musical sense because it forms a large part of our identity. Everybody has a unique voice and requires a unique treatment in order to fine tune it and use it to sing beautifully. When it comes to songs, I like to work with three songs at a time: a classical song in Italian, a musical theater/show tune piece, and a song chosen by the student. Read More

Our lessons will have three broad areas of focus: Discovering a unique and personal sound through playful vocal exploration. (Influences: David Jones, Joan Sutherland, Monseratt Caballe and Seth Riggs) Developing concrete skills like range and agility with classic singing exercises. (Influences: bel canto, rythmn & blues, and musical theater singing.) Understanding how thinking and physicality play a necessary role in vocalization. (Influences: the Alexander Technique, Neurodynamics, and acting training.) What is it like in my studio? Read More
