I care about my students progress and their well being. Music is my life but it can also be very frustrating and difficult. I never want to make a student feel stressed out or feel bad about themselves during one of my lessons. If a student is struggling with a piece of music, we can focus on the difficult part and break it down to just a few notes at a time. Read More

I'm an enthusiastic and driven teacher who loves to help students realize their personal musical goals. In 2012, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from Trinity University and in 2014, I earned an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. I've performed a wide variety of music with everyone from orchestras to pop and folk bands throughout my life. I've also consistently written my own music and performed it in a variety of settings, including recently completing a national US tour of my original songs. Read More

For beginning students, I emphasize fundamentals, including technique, sound quality, and reading. With children, I like to start with method books such as Essential Elements or the John Thompson series for piano. For more advanced pupils, I will start with what they are currently working on, find areas for improvement, and then adjust the curriculum accordingly. However, no matter what the students interests or skill level are, I try and keep the lessons light, fun, and interesting! Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my early college days, about twenty-two years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last two decades. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for their instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy their instrument and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I have been teaching since 2002. My first teaching job was at a small private school. I then moved on to teach six years at public high schools in Texas, and then I moved on to teaching at the University level. Throughout that time I have always had a private studio as well. Many of my students have gone on to be very successful in music.Having successful students motivates me to always teach great lessons. Read More

My main goal is to equip my students with the tools necessary to achieve their own personal goals in music. The better the student becomes, in the most efficient manner, the more they will enjoy all music has to offer. I use both published materials as well as exercises I develop myself to individualize instruction. I not only stress the fundamentals of playing technique but try to add a historical context to what is being learned, styles of music over the years, some understanding of music theory and the like. I’ve been teaching people music ever since college. Tutoring was a way to help pay the bills. It also gave me the chance to digest my knowledge outside of the classroom. My teaching methods vary for each student. Not everyone learns the same way. I design my lessons to compliment my student’s learning habits! However, I always provide a blend of classical and modern theory for each student, because I think it helps students become well rounded. Read More
