Originally from Dallas, TX, I was always interested in music but never thought of it as more than a hobby. I was a solo performer playing shows around the Dallas/Fort Worth area and in a popular Salsa band for years before I finally decided to get back into school and see where this musical journey would take me. As a teacher I offer a common sense approach to teachingall instrumentsto students of all ages. For students who are new to playing; I focus first on the mechanics of playing,getting their mind to respond to what the body to best of their ability. Along the way they learn to read and understand written music, and just as important, how to play with and forother musicians. For beginner students who are children, I usually start with the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has advanced to where I can see that they have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the instrument, that is typically when I begin to introduce solo repertoire and supplement with my own material.
