I am into keeping the student into what they are doing with music. I will make learning an instrument as fun as I can and push them as much as I need to. I will not overwork my students because that is not fun. I love teaching students privately one on one. My youngest student was 4; a Piano student. She was from a Russian family and didn’t speak a word of English. Teaching her was a joint effort between myself and the girl’s mother who did speak English; a very interesting experience. My oldest student was 86; a Guitar student. He had studied previously with another instructor and loved to play. Practice makes perfect. I believe the basics are the most important part to any education including a musical one. Just as a building requires a solid foundation before it can rise to the sky so too do students need to master fundamentals before moving on to the more challenging aspects of their instruments.
