Understanding the student's interest would be my priority goal. Helping students not just playing the instrument, but also loving it, so they will cherish the time with their instruments. Having fun while learning music is always my target in teaching music. Students and parents are welcome to provide the music they would love to learn. That should keep their attention in having fun. I meet with all my students and talk with them about what their goals are before we get started. Once I learn more about the student, I will personalize lesson plans that I believe will be the best fit for that individual student. Everyone learns differently, so I do not use one form of teaching across the board for all my students. For a first timer i typically would relate with the student so as to connect with the basis for their interest in learning the musical instrument. Different students have different levels of perception or assimilation. This i establish before i even start the introductory class proper. Then i go through the fundamentals with the student, and observe their progress along the way.
