In high school I had the great privilege of being selected as the Principal clarinetist in the Minnesota All-State Band. We performed at the summer camp designed for these groups and recreated our performance at Orchestra Hall, home of the Minnesota Orchestra, the following spring. Clarinet is my primary instrument and first love. I also teach saxophone and beginning flute and hope to add other woodwinds in the future. Additionally, I like to work with scales and long tones in a more advanced way, expanding the range of the instrument and tone quality as we prepare repertoire. With students interested in jazz, either as their primary course of study or in addition to classical music, we focus even more on scales and arpeggios, aiming to master first the most commonly used keys and then expanding to 12 key mastery. I like to begin with a play-along book like Jamey Aebersold's "Maiden Voyage", stressing the beginnings of improvisation, then moving on to more advanced tunes and chord progressions. Read More

I played alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and bass clarinet in Denison's Symphonic Band for 4 years and I played lead tenor in their Jazz Ensemble for 3 years. I also play with the Austin College Wind Symphony, the Greater Texoma Jazz Ensemble, and in the orchestra for musicals with the Sherman Community Players. I am currently playing tenor saxophone in the SOSU Symphonic Winds, first tenor in the SOSU Jazz Band, and I play tenor in a jazz combo named Wombo Combo. Read More
