I find that music of any genre is much easier to study if you have an understanding of the framework of what you practice. To that end, I stress technical study that works towards grooming pieces or songs for performance and make sure that my students have a complete understanding of both music and their instrument. My teaching experiences have come from my time spent playing in a variety of ensembles in the different colleges that I attended. I was often asked to lead groups in rehearsal and this was where my teaching experiences first began. It started with my colleges Big Band and then with a Saxophone Quartet. Being able to lead a group of musicians and helping them get better everyday was the most fulfilling feeling I got during my time in school and pushed me to try my hand at teaching younger students. I played alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and bass clarinet in Denison's Symphonic Band for 4 years and I played lead tenor in their Jazz Ensemble for 3 years. I also play with the Austin College Wind Symphony, the Greater Texoma Jazz Ensemble, and in the orchestra for musicals with the Sherman Community Players. I am currently playing tenor saxophone in the SOSU Symphonic Winds, first tenor in the SOSU Jazz Band, and I play tenor in a jazz combo named Wombo Combo. Read More
