The method of teaching is as follows: 1) assess where the student is in music and in life, 2) ask about goals in music, 3) formulate objective to reach those goals, 4) rethink things when needed (students aren't cookies, so I can't use a cookie cutter). If the student has been playing their instrument without lessons I investigate what sounds and styles they apparently are drawn to and consider that when planning lessons. I believe that, as great as regular, focused practice is, it is also my job as a private tutor to shape each and every lesson around an individual student's specific needs.
