Before moving on to more scales and next pieces in the selected order at the beginning of class. In 2014, I graduated from University of Southern Maine, where I studied clarinet with Tom Parchman, with a degree in Music Education. In 2017, I graduated from University fo Delaware with a dual Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance and Composition, where I studied clarinet with Chris Nichols. For beginning students, I find that the simpler the methods, the better. Essential Elements is a great series for beginners, and is a good way to teach basic music theory and musical ideas. As students progress, I like to introduce solo repertoire and books that are more specific to the instrument that they are learning. I also like to find out what music the student enjoys listening to, or has a desire to play, and start to add songs in that style to their list of practice pieces. Read More

During my employment with Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts and Education (in Wilson, NC) where I introduced a marching band program and lead the band to winning second place in the Music in the Parks competition in May of 2015. During my internship I was able to develop a percussion line with the students in under a month. The formation and level of proficiency of the percussion section was so astonishing that administrators, staff, other teachers, and even the principal dropped in from time to time just to hear the progression of the ensemble.
