I like to let the student chose some pieces that they like or are interested in playing. I will play the piece for the student so that they know what it sounds like. I go through as book like "Solo Guitar Playing" by Frederick Noad with the student. After they achieve some proficiency on the instrument, I will allow them to pick other pieces from their guitar books or I will suggest pieces that they might like and wish to learn. Read More

My teaching method depends on what the student wants to learn, if they prefer to start learning songs first that is fine but I will still make sure to cover basic music principles in early lessons and incorporate them into the lessons. I can also start with method books but I have found that students don't always want to start there. For students that want a well rounded approach I will combine one of the common method books with simple songs and chords that the student can get going on right away. Read More

I recommend that anyone starting to learn music begins at the age of ten simply because of finger strength and focus. I also try to ensure that they practice at a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes a day between lessons to help them reach their full potential. I stand by the "practice makes perfect" saying wholeheartedly. I give small amounts of homework after every lesson and try to create a fun environment for learning that is stress-free. Read More

I have been teaching off and on since I was a teenager. I have taken my knowledge of music from many talented and diverse musicians across many genres. I have spent a significant amount of time on the road and in studios learning from some amazing people. I try hard to use all of this knowledge in providing students with fun, helpful, and diverse lessons. Read More

I am inspired by passing along enthuiasm and inspiration to my students. I customize every lesson to each student and their learning style. I set up 'check lists' or 'battle plans' to keep track of goals, progess and to help the student remember what they may need to review. I will help the student in whatever way I can to achive their musical goals. I make myself availble for any student question at any time by email. Read More

One of my favorite things to see is the development of a student into a true musician.  When something clicks for a student and they begin making connections and are able to make music their own, that is incredibly exciting to me!  I believe that my teaching style produces musicianship which is rewarding and beneficial to every student.  Learning a musical instrument teaches discipline, multitasking, and many other excellent traits which can be applied to other areas of life. Recently I was hired as piano instructor for Quartertonez Music, in Washington DC. Also, I have had experience teaching and studying music education under my high school mentor, renowned music teacher Tim Savage; I was his student-teacher for a semester course at St. Lawrence University. Additionally, throughout my experience as his music student, his teaching approach has infused music education and facilitation lessons within the musical instruction itself. My past teaching experience also includes being a Drill Instructor for the Italian Department at Vassar College for two years during my time as an undergrad (I not only "ran drills" for students who had already started learning the material, but also had to compensate in a variety of ways for the unsuccessful, dysfunctional, or half-hearted engagement that is typical in a foreign language class). Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
