I began my teaching journey in high school when I taught lessons to my classmates, family and friends because I knew teaching was a crucial aspect of information retention. I started teaching professionally in college in order to help pay for tuition. I was teaching guitar lessons as well as teaching students how to use recording equipment in order to make recordings for auditions and class projects. My studio is located in a beautiful, naturally lit forest setting located near Annapolis, Maryland. Read More

I am a big believer in creating a space for students to explore their musical interests. The most important part of music lessons is the development of a relationship between teacher and student. From this, great things can happen. Learning a musical instrument is difficult and developing regular practice habits is one of biggest challenges that students encounter. I have found that establishing rapport and trust, and out of that creating a fun environment, is the best way to foster an atmosphere that will inspire the student to pick up their instrument outside the lesson. I love teaching and inspiring others to want to play music. I hold a diploma from La Music Academy International (MAI) (Nancy, France) and I have had the great fortune of spending several summers playing in bistros, restaurants and clubs in France. I also hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Guitar Performance (Concentration: Jazz Studies) from Montclair State Unitersity. As a guitarist I have played at Performing Art Centers, off broadway and univeristy music theater productions and in many cover and original bands around the greater NY/NJ area. Read More

I can't remember a time when I wasn't singing, banging on the family piano, or making joyful noise with whatever could be hit, shaken or kicked. I got a guitar at age ten--blame the Beatles!-- took some lessons, learned some songs by ear, and was giving my first lesson before I was out of high school. I studied music formally at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., graduating Cum Laude. Read More

My teaching methods focus on building on the fundamentals of embodied proficiency with music (not just how to "read what's on the page", but first how to feel and delve into what's happening with all the moving parts and their many relationalities). For both children and adult students, before getting into structures and representations, the starting point will be the embodied feelings and experiences of and around music. In the first lesson, even my absolutely-beginner students will be having fun jamming, exploring and applying newly-learned things before we even talk about what a major scale is. Read More

I have several tools that I use to get students playing music. One of my favorite tools is the Music Flashcards made by Bastien. Rather than teaching notes using an acronym like "every good boy deserves fudge" to teach notes, I use landmarks which get students to see the relationship between notes and allow them to read music with fluidity and ease. I pair these flashcards with Music Tree book 1 and feel that they compliment each other very well. Read More

My teaching method depends on what the student wants to learn, if they prefer to start learning songs first that is fine but I will still make sure to cover basic music principles in early lessons and incorporate them into the lessons. I need and expect my students to practice at least 15 minutes of per day, more if possible. This will enable me to not have to review previous lessons too much and we can move through more material quicker. Read More
