Jamie S. is a teacher, guitarist, singer/songwriter, saxophonist, and composing pianist. His teaching career began at the age of fourteen, as a volunteer in the Songcatchers, Inc. program, teaching saxophone and piano to underprivileged children in New Rochelle, NY. He went on to study music at the University of Rochester/Eastman School of Music. In 2007 he did an eight-month internship at Island Def Jam/Universal Music Group whilst living in Harlem, after which he completed an independent study on the modern music industry, and was awarded the first ever Bachelor of Arts Degree in Popular Music and Jazz from Rochester/Eastman. My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I have 7 years teaching both in a private studio setting and in group/ensemble setting.  I teach piano, saxophone, flute, and clarinet, to all levels and ages.  I have experience teaching and playing in marching bands, orchestras, salsa bands, jazz bands, and wind ensembles, to contemporary Christian/worship bands.  I have played in several musicals.  I front my own contemporary Christian Band, and we just released our first album in April, 2013.
