Each student is different and as such, each student's approach to learning music is different. While still addressing your personal goals, I work to help you achieve those goals and interests, but also utilize my own experiences in teaching to foster deeper growth. I focus on exploration, keeping the study interesting, all while understanding that each student can be at any level, and learn at any speed. I believe that both talent and potential must be met with effort for growth to be achieved, and that all students need some form of discipline and encouragement and make sure to serve both at every lesson. My first emphasis is that you have to like what you're playing. I really try to focus on what music gets the student excited. For some of them, it comes quickly. Others it might take a while, and that is okay. Once I find the switch that engages the student's interest, that is my focus. I really emphasize getting students to read music and also understand the key components of music theory, so that they understand what it is they are playing. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, its important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress and this makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the students, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

We have fun right out of the gate. I bring songs to work on that I think students will like, and invite them to tell me what music they love so that they will want to practice. I have a few books to help us work through technique, but try to use that technique in music that the student will be excited to practice. As a passionate songwriter, I also encourage students to begin composing and songwriting right away if it interests them. Read More
