Here is how we will progress: 1. Warm up with exercises for intonation, rhythm, breathing and learning to sustain a long note. A good singer must be able to hold a long note. 2. Vocal technique - Learn the song correctly - vowels and mouth opening, melody 3. Emotional delivery (adding soul to your style) 4. Stage presence (body language - eyes, hands, legs position, facial expression) 5. Improvisation (add-libbing skills) 6. Microphone technique - final stage (only for finished song - student must know it by heart) 7. Read More

While the technique is the same, the approach can be very different for each student. I first work on breath, then warm up the voice with exercices and then we sing and have fun. I accompany my students on the piano and encourage them to perform at recitals if they feel up for it. Working with children is different: For piano only, I use the Faber+Faber material, it's a fun and easy approach and works very well. Read More

In 1984 I was a music instructor for the Canadian Forces School of Music in Esquimalt British Columbia. Over the last three decades I have taught one-on-one lessons and ensembles at all levels including Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. More recently I founded MusiCali Kids with my wife, servicing families with the award winning program Music Together. I recently taught for the Crestwood Music Education center in N.Y. where I had over 30 students, as well as served as Conductor of the string orchestras and percussion ensemble. Read More

Typically, I favor using traditional curriculum for beginning students (Alfred, Faber, Bastian). As a student progresses we typically incorporate Clemeneti sonatinas and the students favorite pop/modern songs. When a student achieves an advanced level of difficulty curriculum is purchased depending on the student's goals, college aspirations, and learning objectives. I typically administer a Classical Method of education, whether in private lessons or the classroom. It is my hope that time in my classroom encourages dialectic conversation and reaps gains in every learning situation. Read More

From Newbreed to Chapin to Afro-Cuban Rhythm for drum set, there are many methods that are worth exploring. That being said, sometimes learning songs (covers) can be the best way to learn quickly and it can be a lot of fun. Something I've done many times too is writing precise exercises for students in order to address and target specific needs. Let's say a student has difficulty with his ghost notes on his/her left hand, I can easily come up with fun exercises in order to speed up the progress and get improvements for that student. I'm a fun, enthusiastic music teacher who enjoys teaching students of all ages. With a degree in music performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory and in acting from the LA City College Theatre Academy, I bring a special skill set and experience level to my lessons. I've been teaching private lessons in the greater Los Angeles area for almost 20 years. My passion is finding a way for each individual student to want to get the most out of their musical education. Sharing the love of music is a vocation that I take very seriously! Read More
Instruments: Guitar Voice
I like to approach vocal lessons from a technical and holistic standpoint. A typical lesson for me usually begins with whatever warm-ups and exercises I feel fit our goals, and a check in to see how you're doing and if there is anything in particular you want to focus on improving. I have a lot of really effective exercises that'll get your voice where you need it to go! I work a lot with placement and support in my singing lessons, and I use a lot of visualization techniques to get you in the right placement. Read More
