For the early stages I have had good results with Faber's Piano Adventure series, finding that these progress at a reasonable pace and build reading skills logically. For technique I like FJH Music's Accelerando series. These short exercises have a big impact on the student's technique and reading, and bring maximum results in a short time. My instruction for a beginner student is for them to learn the fundamentals of identifying what the piano keys are called, how to identify the notes on the piano sheet music, placement of fingers and that each finger is assigned a number, the aspects involving music theory, i.e. different names of notes, the grand staff, scale development, key signatures and time signatures, etc., and perhaps learning the fundamentals of music composition. By late high school I began teaching private lessons and began preforming local shows with bands. After a few years of private lessons, I was offered a percussion teaching position at the private music school, Tri-Key Music Center, in Hawthorne NJ. My love for teaching began as a peer tutor in college. I tutored students in piano, guitar, bass ear training, and music theory. I began to love teaching when I noticed the change and progress it creates within people. While in college, I taught at a musical theatre camp as a music teacher.
