I opened a small music studio in September of 2017, with some borrowed lesson books and just a few students. Since then, my studio has doubled, and my students have shown consistent progress. As an instructor, I don't merely teach concepts, pieces, and theory; I teach my students strategies to problem solve, overcome challenges, practice effectively, and become lifelong learners. I am first and foremost a student. I love being a student and love being open to new forms of music and anything to better my education. In May of 2017 I graduated from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee with a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance. Performance has taught me multiple languages, taken me around the U.S. and parts of Europe, working with the top musicians in the world. I began teaching private lessons in 2005, and I have a variety of teaching experiences. I have since substitute taught every kind of subject, and I've taught general music K-5.  I have mentored conservatory level students when I was in grad school, I taught flute to non-flute music education majors, and I've taught undergraduate students that were pre-music.  I taught 3-8 year olds music at Laurel Hill Summer Camp in East Setauket, Long Island. I've also taught workshops on South American Folk Music with Alturs Duo, as well as flute masterclasses. My intermediate students I like to pull form either the Klose for clarinet students, the Trevor Wye books for flute, and Ferling for saxophone. My advanced students I like to introduce solo repitoire as well as more advance studies on their respective instruments, as well as more comprehensive scale and tone exercises. I am a recent graduate of the University of Connecticut music department holding a bachelor's degree in music - vocal performance. I currently sing for a number of professional choirs, and teach private voice, piano, and guitar. I took voice lessons for 8 years, piano for 15, and guitar for 9. When I finish teaching a lesson, I often feel like I've either learned something new or have been reminded of something fundamental about music. For example, it's very good for the health of my own piano technique to be able to explain basic piano technique to someone else. I think it's this "selfish" element of teaching that most characterizes my approach to private lessons--I try to treat every lesson as an opportunity for my personal growth as well as theirs, and I try to do this by communicating a genuine passion for music.
