I love to perform and I love to teach! As a performer, I am comfortable in opera, musical theater, recital, and concert settings. I have had the pleasure of performing with organizations like Opera Piccola, San Antonio Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Austin, the Theater Company of Fort Lee, Capitol Opera Richmond, and Classical Revolution RVA. There, I had my own voice studio, comprised of top performing vocal students, as well a course open to any level of singers, which introduced them to a healthy singing technique. My teaching experience is fairly new but as a senior I helped many of the incoming freshman with their technique and how to approve upon it. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule i one of the key points I like t emphasize for all students, as it helps the student to progress and gain a higher understanding and confidence in their voice. I began giving private vocal lessons back in 2015 when I was living in Los Angeles, CA. That time in life taught me so much especially about working with young children. I later went on to move back to the east coast and began substitute teaching in public schools for music. This allowed me to master working with younger students. For younger children, I typically start with the fundamentals such as distinguishing between the head voice and the chest voice. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for said student. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in both repertoire and vocal goals, and guide my instruction according to their goals. I will be the first to admit I don't have a set method for teaching. However that is because I choose different methods based on the student. Every child, adult, teenager, etc learns at a different pace, has a different educational preference and I adjust myself to meet the needs of the student. Some will learn better by ear, others will learn through a traditional study of notes.
