I work with the student to learn what they are interested in learning. All my students learn to read traditional notation as well as tablature. I like method books like Hal Leonard , especially for the complete beginner - but I supplement with other repertoire I have found throughout the years. I encourage beginning with a nylon string guitar because it is easier on the fingers! I incorporate music theory in all of my teaching. Read More

I don’t believe one method fits all! I believe each person is an individual, so students should be taught as who they are with their own pace. I emphasize on communication, motivation, and patience for both piano and singing. Basically these 3 elements are missing in our society, especially young students. Everything is being promoted as “Express Way” now as learning process without the middle part, but this won’t work for piano or singing. Read More

It is so important to have students keep their interests in music and continue their life long journey of music making. Therefore, I would choose the music that fits student's ability and interest, and encourage to practice at his or her own pace. As a teacher, I am not just teaching students the content knowledge, I am also a cheerleader, and a facilitator to their music studies. I want to inspire my students to enjoy music in their day to day life, and have a passion on playing the instrument or making music. Read More

I have been teaching music lessons since I was a freshman in college, pursuing my violin performance degree. It has been over 7 years and my passion for teaching students of all different ages and backgrounds continues to grow. Over the years, I've taught over 40 different students; some were my own private students, and some I taught at institutions around New York City. Seeing students fall in love with playing the violin and do their best to improve warms my heart and the feeling never grows old. Read More

For children I use the "Teaching Little Fingers to Play" series by John Thompson. I do this because because the top of each page has a diagram of how the notes on the staves as well as the diacritical marks are played on the piano. When this series is done done I try to find music that is rich in nuance and subtlety if the the student likes classical music such as the "Favorite Classical Melodies" or the "Performance Primer level" series by James Bastien or American classic music ranging all the way from Stephen Foster to St. Read More

I try to find out what each student is interested in and I guide them from there. I like to encourage each students unique style. I make sure the music is appropiate for the age and level of each student. I believe in positive reinforcement with productive vocal exercises to build on their strengths and improve their weaknesses. Read More
