I've been playing the piano for 15 years as a church accompanist. I currently perform as a church accompanist at a church in Little Rock for 6 years. During summer 2012, I held a piano teaching internship at Rhythm 88 Music School in Little Rock, Arkansas. I performed at Carnegie Weill Hall with my friend, cellist Kyung-min Kang 2013 summer. I love giving my students the option to expess themselves and approach them with the methods they enjoy and desire. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Andy has recorded records for various bands and three independent film soundtracks in addition to playing for our troops on a USO tour. At California State University, Northridge (CSUN), Andy studied classical and world percussion. I do believe that understanding of music theory is necessary to advance beyond the intermediate level, and this system has assisted in training many students over the years.
