For piano beginners I use the Faber book series. I prefer these books because it gives a mixture of theory and technique that I think is essential to learn at an early stage. For violin beginners I prefer to use the Suzuki Method books. These books are great because they get the student playing quickly, while still introducing the foundations of basic theory for reading music. I teach how to read music and mainly use Faber & Faber method for both children and adults. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Faber and Faber primer level. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce scales and solo repertoire. Once a lesson plan has been established with a student, I progress them through each lesson with specific goals. My goal is to infuse the student with understanding but also wonder and awe as to how music is created. There is always something worth praising in a student, and I am always sure to do that in our lessons after every performance.
