Instruments: Piano
My methods change according to the ability, age, and personality of my students. I always use a variety of materials for both young students and adults to keep them interested. I enjoy spending the time needed to address proper practice habits, so that students are able to make the most of their time at the piano. I strongly believe that a traditional classical foundation is helpful for all pianists, but encourage both kids and adults to explore all the repertoire that they love. Read More

No matter the approach, I make sure its engaging, age-appropriate, and personally meaningful to each student. For voice lessons, I combine healthy vocal technique (grounded in both classical and contemporary styles) with real-world performance tools like mic technique, expression, and confidence-building. I often pull from my own experiences on stage and in the studio to help students find their authentic sound. In piano lessons, I balance technical foundation (scales, sight-reading, hand coordination) with creative work like learning favorite songs, composing short pieces, or even collaborating on songwriting. My Beginning Piano lessons are perfect for first-time musicians. Students will learn the basics of piano skills, musical theory, and basic chords to get them making music at the piano quickly. My Intermediate Piano explores a higher level of technique, including improvisation and reading more complex music. My Advanced Piano is for students who have been playing consistently for over 5 years. I provide in-depth guidance in style, interpretation, harmony, and performance. Read More

I create a custom lesson plan for each student, as every voice is different, and everyone comes with a different set of goals in mind. Every student can expect to be asked what their goals are, whether they are just to have fun and sing, work towards competing in local competitions, or to audition for a choir or show, and lessons and repetoire will be based on those goals. Every student can also expect to do do basic vocal exercises at every lesson to warm up their voice, and to more effectively teach technique and gauge progress. Read More

My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I consider reading music like different subject that they learn later. Learning music is like learning to speak. First we learn to talk and then we learn to read and write. Read More

I like seeing progress and appreciation in music, and to me that is student success. I enjoy helping students meet their individual goals, and I encourage them to work their hardest to achieve their best. I use humor to keep things engaging. I learn from my students what works most effectively for them as individuals. One of the things my students really enjoy are those certificates at the end of the method books. Read More

My philosophy is to ask why, investigate what interests the student to learn music in the first place. Nine times out of ten it is a short-lived pipe dream, when the realization of consistent practice, sacrifice, and hard work equals results is reality. I then utilize lessons plans or books that I have used, accordingly. I find its good practice to have some form of a guide or lesson plan, but also make sure they have the basic concept of music theory down in order for the journey to make sense. Read More
