For younger students, especially children, I will begin their first vocal lesson by standing next to them and showing them how to stand with correct posture. Then I will move on to breathing by having the child place their hand on their diaphragm. I will show them that it is the muscle right above their stomach. In addition to working from the popular school method books and any band music I will assign different things for my students to work on to keep our lessons fun and engaging. I am using Walter Giseking-Karl Leimer methods. The first text book is "The School of Piano playing" by prof. Nikolaev (American edition),which means starting to read simultaneously treble and bass clefs, scales, etudes by Cherni, "Childrens Albums" by Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Inventions by J.S.Bach etc. It is the solid academical approach. Also from the first lessons me and student will play in 4 hands, and student will learn how to accompany and improvise from very first lessons, which is the favorite part of lessons for all my students!
