I'm a passionate music educator with considerable experience as a teacher and performer. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2005 where I studied music education with an emphasis on trombone. Since graduation, I have been fortunate to have many opportunities to conduct, perform, and teach music. I play a many different instruments and perform many different genres and styles. Whether it be conducting student ensembles, performing in small clubs, or singing with a chorus at Carnegie Hall, many of my best life experiences have been because of music and I want to guide my students toward their own great musical experiences. I began teaching the guitar and beginner piano in 2012 after I graduated from UCSB and have been teaching in students’ homes and online since then. My teaching experience ranges from teaching adults who want to learn the fundamentals of classical guitar (beginning technique and sight-reading exercises) to teaching young kids interested in modern methods of playing, learning pop and rock songs, and playing solos. In 2015, I taught in afterschool programs, notably for Hancock Park Elementary School in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, for which I taught an excellent group of curious learners as we surveyed modern guitar methods, sight-reading, chords and harmonic progressions, and playing in duos. I almost always use Alfred's Basic Piano Library for kids n adults, the same series for young beginners for younger kids. Time to time i use piano Adventure series by Faber n Faber. I focus on flash cards n sight reading books besides the main lesson book since a lot of students do not read well n try to memorize their pieces by ear. I believe strongly that students can't go so far without being able to read properly. Read More

I have the same approach to teaching beginner and intermediate piano. Again, we learn our notes in five finger position and then we learn to read time signatures, notes in the treble clef, chords, and rhythms, as well as playing complete songs.
