For piano students, I use the Faber method, which I believe is very practical and easy to use. The repertoire includes light classical, contemporary and lyrical songs. I teach proper hand position and posture, work on scales, basic music terminology and playing technique. For young beginners I usually start with William Monell 's Piano For The Small Fry, John Thompson's Teaching Little Fingers To Play and John W. Schaum's Piano Course Pre A- The Green Book. Within couple months my little musicians are ready for their first recital. For continuing students I teach in my own Russian style using several books such as Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Alfred's Premier Piano Course, Faber's Adventure series and many other books. My methods include a wide variety of resources. For beginning students I like both the Hal Leonard and John Thompson approaches. Along with the lesson books, i also encourage technical studies including scales, arpeggios and other studies to build up finger strength, dexterity and independence, As the student progresses, I introduce memory work, choring and basic improvisation. For the more advanced student I let them work on repertoire of their choosing, stressing a variety of genres and styles. Read More
