I placed the highest priority on the teacher-student relationship. I believe that maintaining a good teacher-student relationship can foster a students music learning. A student will be motivated to learn and practice if they like their teacher. Also, they will be eager to share their own ideas and interpretations of the music. Therefore, I will remain a not-too-close relationship with my student. If having a too close relationship with students, teachers may not become an authority to their students anymore, and receive less respect from them. Read More

I have been teaching in the States for about 9 years. It is a pleasure for me to hear my students progress from their first steps as timid, first-time players to confident and more musically mature young musicians. My students participate in a monthly MDML recital and an annual music test organized by the MMTA. I believe performing for others is a good way for students to grow into their roles as musicians and to acquire a sense of accomplishment. Read More

I encourage lots of individuality and fun. Music is a way to express yourself. I'm never teaching for the purpose for the student to become better than others to win awards and perform at recitals. Self expression and achieving personal goals to me are far more important than winning competitions and on-paper accomplishments. I'll always tailor my lessons for each individual student, and I'll try my best to keep my lessons within the student's area of interest. Read More

I rely on Alfred's Piano Library as it's proven to be a thorough approach to learning, exercising and memory. After some discussions about what resonates with the student, we will both explore options we can really dig into and present in concert format later. I will also introduce counter material for a better overall perspective of how things work, why they do and don't work (depending on the setting) and to better understand those same elements in different contexts. I listen to the student's music selections. While he/she plays, I observe him/her how this student is adapting to the instrument. After his/her performance, I offer constructive criticism pointing out steps to adapt himself/herself to the instrument. I also encourage and push for attentive listening for tone quality. This is very important no matter the level of students. The way to listen for tone quality is not only seating straight and at the center of the keyboard, but also understand when and how to use the bony part of the fingers(closer to nails) versus the fleshy part of fingers on the opposite side of nails. I am passionate about my students and about music. From the outset of working with music students I emphasize the importance of good posture and handling of their instrument, good breathing technique, good embouchure, and regular practice in order to develop strong embouchure and technique and knowledge of their instrument. I love teaching! Whether it is music, dance, math, or anything else I may find myself teaching, I give my all to my students. Read More
