Instruments: Piano Voice
My experience as a voice teacher dates back to 1995. I was invited to teach several Masterclasses over the course of twenty years. The invitations came from institutions such as: The Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, The Guildhall School of Music (London), The Cleveland Institute of Music, The Royal College of Music (London) and The Royal Conservatory of The Hague. I began teaching private lessons in my home studio in 2008 and in September of that year I was invited to join the music faculty at Oundle School, UK. Read More

I think voice especially has always been viewed as a bit of a mystery... you can't see or touch your voice as you sing, unlike playing instruments, so there's a certain amount of imagination that has to be involved. I do my best to straddle making singing as tangible as I can, and approach things somewhat scientifically ("This muscle is used in this way," etc.) while also inspiring visualization ("Send your sound out into the distance," etc.) I also really think it's important for musicians to be diverse, so not only will we learn chord and strumming patterns on a guitar, we'll also learn how to read simple lead lines of solos, etc. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing one of my students grow as a musician! I believe in the importance of supporting my students by attending concerts, recitals, and any other performance opportunity. In lessons, my teaching style and technique involves positive reinforcement and encouragement for progress. I make realistic goals for my students, and I clearly articulate when my students have reached their goals. I believe that constant reinforcement and encouragement is vital for students to feel their own successes, no matter how big or small. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I believe it is important for voice and piano students to have a basic understanding of music theory, as well as technique. I pull material from a variety of sources. For piano, I typically use Bastien and/ or Hal Leonard. For voice, I build a build upon the "legit" classical foundation of voice training (Similar to a dancer learning ballet first, before other forms of dance) Following that, I cultivate my students to find their own particular genre of vocal style. I have been teaching piano since I first graduated with a Bachelor's. Starting in my Hometown of Palo Alto, CA, I moved to New York in 2011, and have since been teaching a growing roster of students. The important part of the musical process, is learning how to be a self-teacher.
